Steamers Look To Keep Winning Streak Alive

December 28, 2005 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
St. Louis Steamers News Release

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers will be looking to extend their winning streak to six games tomorrow night at 7:35 against the Chicago Storm at Savvis Center. They will also be looking to win their fifth straight home game of the season; they have yet to be defeated in Savvis. The Steamers and Storm had a spirited rivalry last season that culminated with the Steamers defeating the Storm to clinch a playoff spot on April 23.

This will be the second game of the season versus the Storm and the first time the two will meet in St. Louis. In the first game at UIC Pavilion in Chicago, the Steamers defeated their host by a score of 7-4. Collinsville, IL native Joe Reiniger did most of the damage in that game by scoring three goals and offering up one assist. In addition to Reiniger's solid night, Sonny Naumoski scored two goals and forward Mike Apple added two assists.

In large part for his efforts against Chicago, Reiniger was awarded the Offensive Player of the Week by the MISL. Brett Phillips was also awarded the Goalkeeper of the Week for the same week.

This will be the first match up between the teams since the Storm traded away one of their top scorers to the California Cougars. The Storm sent John Ball and then rights to Kevin Sakuda to the Cougars for Anthony Maher and the rights to Andy Rosenband. Ball was second on the team in points and was tied for the team lead in assists at the time of the trade despite missing two games due to suspension.
