St. Louis Steamers News Release
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers return home for their first home playoff game of the MISL Championship Series tomorrow night, April 22nd at 7:05 p.m. when they host the Chicago Storm in Game 2 of the Semi-Finals. St. Louis defeated Chicago 7-1 last weekend at Chicago's UIC-Pavilion. If the Steamers win Saturday, they will advance to the Championship Series finals against the winner of the Semi-Final Series between the Milwaukee Wave and the Baltimore Blast. Should the Storm win, Chicago and St. Louis will play a "Golden Goal" Session immediately following the final of Game 2. The first team to score during the extra session wins the series.
The Steamers 7-1 was one of total dominance as St. Louis held Chicago to 13 shots with only 8 making their way to the goalkeepers Brett Phillips and Bayard Elfvin. Phillips earned his first win of the playoffs after winning 20 during the regular season. Elfvin made three saves while Phillips spent time in the penalty box, twice for an intentional handball.
Forwards Mike Apple and Shaun David scored two goals a piece, Jamar Beasley had two points (one goal) and Captain Jeff DiMaria added two assists. Midfielder Carlos "Chile" Farias and defender D.J. Newsom added the other two goals for the Steamers. Mark Ughy scored the lone goal for Chicago in the fourth quarter. During the regular season, the Steamers won five out of six games including all three at Savvis Center where they finished 14-1.
If the Steamers advance to the MISL Championship Series Finals, they will play the winner of the Milwaukee Wave/Baltimore Blast series next Friday night at either Milwaukee or Baltimore. Game 2, and if necessary, the "Golden Goal" session, will take place on Sunday, April 30th beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Savvis Center. That game will be televised on ESPN2.
