March 25, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
St. Louis Steamers News Release
(St. Louis, March 25, 2004) -- The St. Louis Steamers (13-18) host MISL Central Division champion Milwaukee March 27 at 1:05 p.m. in the team's MISL season home-finale at The Family Arena. The game is "Fan Appreciation Day": All fans with a paid admission for the game can redeem their ticket stub for a free admission to a Steamers home game next season, prior to Dec. 31, 2004. On Sunday, March 28, the Steamers travel to Cleveland to take on the Force in a crucial 2:05 p.m. battle with MISL playoff implications.
With just five games remaining in the 36-game MISL regular season, the Steamers (13-18) trail Cleveland (14-19) by percentage points in the battle for the sixth and final MISL playoff berth. The Steamers also are just ½ game behind the Kansas City Comets (15-19) for fifth place in the MISL standings. Six MISL teams qualify for the 2003-2004 MISL playoffs. Milwaukee (Central Division) and Dallas (Western Division) have both clinched playoff berths via division titles. Eastern Division leader Baltimore and Philadelphia also have both clinched playoff berths. Kansas City, Cleveland, St. Louis, and San Diego are all vying for the final two playoff positions.
The March 27, 1:05 p.m. game at The Family Arena offers the final opportunity of the regular season for the Steamers to defeat the Wave. Milwaukee (23-9) won the first five meetings this season, including a 10-3 triumph March 7 at Milwaukee's U.S. Cellular Arena. The critical March 28, 2:05 p.m. battle at Cleveland's Convocation Center is the fourth and final matchup of the season between the two teams; the Steamers have won two of the previous three meetings. Following the March 28 game, the Steamers have three regular-season games remaining, all on the road: March 31 at Monterrey; April 3 at Dallas; and April 5 at Monterrey.
In addition to "Fan Appreciation Day," the March 27 match features a special "Shots on Slobo" fund-raiser to benefit the BackStoppers organization. Fans who stop by the BackStoppers table in the Family Arena main concourse and donate $5 will have the opportunity to go on the field at halftime and take a shot against legendary Steamers goalkeeper Slobo Ilijevski.
TICKET INFORMATION: Single-game tickets ranging from $7 to $15 are available at The Family Arena box office; by calling MetroTix at 314-534-1111; or by visiting metrotix.com. For general information on the Steamers, visit www.stlsteamers.com, or call 1-866-STL-KICK (1-866-785-5425).
