Steamers Aim To Go Above .500 Mark This Weekend
December 8, 2005 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
St. Louis Steamers News Release
ST. LOUIS - For the second straight game, the St. Louis Steamers will take on the California Cougars on Saturday, December 8 at 1:05 CDT at Savvis Center. This will be a rematch of last weekend when the Steamers took down the visiting Cougars, 8-1.
The game was all Steamers from the start with Shaun David intercepting a pass and taking it the other way to beat Cougar goalkeeper Jim Larkin at the 2:23 mark of the opening quarter. 22 year old Elvir Kafedzic kept it going by knocking in 3 consecutive goals for the natural hat trick and giving the Steamers a 4-0 lead. The three goals by Kafedzic were the first goals of his career and helped earn him the MISL Offensive Player of the Week award. This was the second straight week a member of the Steamers won a player of the week award. Brett Phillips won Goalkeeper of the Week just seven days earlier.
A win this week will push the Steamers record to above the .500 mark for the first time this season. It would also keep the Steamers perfect record at home intact at 3-0. Another streak that would be kept alive with a win would be the losing streak of the California Cougars. With a defeat, they would fall to 0-7 and would still be searching for the first win in franchise history. They are currently in their inaugural season as a franchise in the MISL. They have also yet to play a home game in their new facility in Stockton, CA.
The Steamers are currently tied for third place with the Philadelphia KiXX and are 2.5 games behind the league leaders, Milwaukee Wave.
Tickets can be purchased at the Savvis Center Box Office, any Ticketmaster location and by calling (314) 241-GOAL!
