St. Louis Steamers News Release

ST. LOUIS, March 18, 2005 -St. Louis Steamers Team President Michael Hetelson, announced today that the team has acquired forward Carlos "Chile" Farias from Baltimore in exchange for forward Mike Apple and defender Nate Houser.

Farias, 28, currently ranks second in the MISL Spalding Scoring Race with 41 points (22 goals, 19 assists). He is tied for third in the league with 19 assists and ranks second in the league with 139 shots and four game-winning goals. The Santiago, Chile native has been named MISL Offensive Player of the Week twice this season on Dec. 6 and Jan. 10. He scored five points (three goals, two assists) for the week of Dec. 6 and notched five points (four goals, one assist) for the week of Jan. 10. Farias has recorded at least one point in 19 of his 25 contests, including 12 multi-point games. He has tallied two, five-point nights on Nov. 20 versus St. Louis and Dec. 4 at Cleveland.

"It is sad to have to part with Mike and Nate especially when they have been huge contributors to the team this season, but when you have a chance to get a prolific scorer in Carlos Farias you have to jump at the opportunity," said Hetelson.

The 5'-6'', 155-pound, forward has spent the previous two seasons with the Blast. He led Baltimore and finished third in the MISL last season with 65 points (22 goals, 43 assists), while being named to his second consecutive MISL All-Star Game. He played the 2002-03 season with the San Diego Sockers finishing second in the league with 111 points. Farias played three seasons with the San Diego Flash of the Major League Soccer outdoor league and is still the Flash's all-time leading scorer. He played one more outdoor season with the El Paso Patriots in 2001.

Apple, 27, has played in 26 games for the Steamers this season, notching 29 points (21 goals, eight assists). Houser, 32, has appeared in 19 contests for St. Louis collecting eight points (four goals, four assists).

In other Steamers news, Lindsay Kennedy's five-game contract will expire following Saturday night's contest at Kansas City. She will come off the active roster but will continue practicing with the team.

"We are still committed to Lindsay and we hope to get her some more playing team before the season is over," said Hetelson.

St. Louis will activate Bosnian midfielder Elvir Kafedzic for Sunday's game at Milwaukee. Kafedzic was the Steamers first round pick, third overall, in the 2005 MISL College Draft. St. Louis will also activate back-up goalkeeper Chris Smith for Sunday's match at Milwaukee.
