Stealth Win Three of Four NLL Player of the Week Awards

EVERETT, Wash. - Three Washington Stealth players have been named NLL Players of the Week for their performances Saturday in the Stealth's season-opening 13-12 win over the defending NLL champion Rochester Knighthawks.

Cliff Smith was named Offensive Player of the Week for a career night while Mitch McMichael was named Transition Player of the Week and Kyle Buchanan was named Rookie of the Week for their efforts during their NLL debuts.

Smith, a 6-3, 200-pound veteran forward from Surrey, British Columbia, was selected for the Offensive Player of the Week award after recording a game-high eight points (3g, 5a) and recovering two loose balls during the season-opening win.

McMichael, a 5-11, 195-pound rookie from Port Perry, Ontario, was named Transition Player of the Week after scoring the go-ahead goal with 5:46 left in the fourth quarter and recovering four loose balls in his NLL debut.

Buchanan, a 5-8, 160-pound forward and sixth-round (48th overall) draft selection from Nepean, Ontario, was named Rookie of the Week after registering four assists and recovered two loose balls his debut.

The Stealth captured three of the NLL's four weekly awards. Rochester goaltender Matt Vinc was named NLL Defensive Player of the Week for Week #1.

The NLL Player Awards are determined by a weekly vote of the league's general managers and head coaches.

The Stealth (1-0) next see action on the road this Saturday, Jan. 12 against the Colorado Mammoth (0-0) in a 6 p.m. PT start at Denver's Pepsi Center. The game is webcast live on The Lacrosse Network and can be viewed at www.StealthLAX.com
