Vancouver Stealth News Release

Vancouver, BC- The Vancouver Stealth (2-5) lost to the Colorado Mammoth (4-3) in overtime.

It was a rare Sunday match for the Stealth and the game itself was just as unique as the day of the week. Coming off a bye and 15 days since their last game, Vancouver put up three goals in the first and led 3-2 after fifteen minutes. The second was a low scoring affair which ended deadlocked at 3.

Early in the third, Vancouver took advantage of a five-minute major against Colorado, scoring three goals in two minutes and fifty-eight seconds and had a 7-5 advantage to close the quarter. The Mammoth added two early goals in what was thought to be the final frame. At 6:56 of the fourth, Joel McCready dove through the opposition crease and scored the go-ahead goal 8-7, but Colorado evened it up halfway through the quarter.

The scoresheet was silent until Rhys Duch scored on the powerplay to put the Stealth up 9-8 with less than a minute to play, but the game's theatrics were far from over. With 24 seconds remaining in the fourth, Colorado tied the game up to send it to overtime where Zack Greer would net the winner for the Mammoth.

Even in the loss, it was a milestone night for Garrett Billings. He played in his 100th game and registered career assists 400, 401 and 402.

"I am just lucky to be playing in my 100th game and be out there with the guys, I don't really think about the numbers right now but it gives me more fuel for the fire for the rest of the season," said Garrett Billings. "Belanger played unbelievable today and I wish we could have rewarded him with this game. We are a committed group that really like each other and we need to start getting wins for our guys."

Tye Belanger was named the first star of the game after making 43 stops including 26 in the final half.

"I saw the ball really well and the guys let me see a lot of the shots from the outside, but all in all we felt good," said Tye Belanger. "We had the effort in the backend and I really think we should have won this game."

Vancouver will be back on the road again this coming weekend visiting the Calgary Roughnecks on Saturday, February 18, 2017. They return home to host the Rochester Knighthawks on February 25, 2017. Tickets are available at the Langley Events Centre Box Office at 604-882-8800, or Ticket Rocket.co .
