Washington Stealth News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The Washington Stealth have released nine players including veteran forwards Jeff Zywicki and Martin Cummings and backup goaltender Chris Seidel as the NLL club begins to trim its roster in anticipation of the start of the 2013 season.
Zywicki, a native of Nepean, Ontario, has been with the Stealth organization for seven season after being selected as the club's first-round pick (8th overall) in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft.
In his time with the organization, the 5-9, 195-pound right-hander has established himself as one of the premier players in the NLL and played a significant role in Washington's NLL Championship in 2010.
"Re-tooling our offense for the future is a challenging process," said Stealth General Manager Doug Locker of the organization's decision to look toward younger players from the draft and free agency. "Days like this are obviously very difficult. We are thankful for all that Jeff has given to this organization and wish him all the best with other opportunities that come up this season and in the future."
Among today's releases are Seidel (Coquitlam, B.C.), a veteran goaltender, who came to the Stealth in the 2010 NLL Entry Draft, and Cummings (Port Coquitlam, B.C.), who played in five games over two seasons with the Stealth.
Others to be released include forwards Peter Jacobs (Hogansburg, N.Y.), Jerome Thompson (Hogansburg, N.Y.) and Mark Negrin (New Westminster, B.C.), transition players T.J. Cowx (Delta, B.C.) and Ryan Johnson (Chilliwack, B.C) and defender Ben McCullough (Brampton, Ont.).
Final cuts to determine the active 23-man roster and three practice-roster spots take place on December 20. The Stealth begin their fourth season of play in Washington state with its 2013 home-opener against the defending NLL champion Rochester Knighthawks, Saturday, Jan. 5 at Everett's Comcast Arena. Ticket packages for all eight Stealth home games start at just $99 and are on sale now. To learn more call 877-MY-75-TIX or visit www.StealthLAX.com Washington Stealth=8A It's Like Hockey with Balls.
