PORTLAND, March 29, 2009 - The San Jose Stealth beat the Portland LumberJax 13-8 Sunday night in front of 6,473 at the Rose Garden Arena. Rookie forward Tim Campeau scored a career-high three goals and finished with an assist. Playing in his first game in over 14 months, forward Derek Lowe (1 goal, 2 assists) finished with a career-high three points.
The Jax (6-5) scored first as Campeau scored off passes from forwards Derek Malawsky (4 assists) and Ryan Powell (2 assists) with 13:09 left in the first quarter. After a San Jose goal, Portland took a 2-1 lead as forward Peter Jacobs (2 goals, 2 assists) scored with 10:45 left in the second quarter.
The Stealth (5-8) would come back and score the final two goals of the quarter to take a 3-2 lead into the second quarter.
San Jose extended its lead to 4-2 before Portland scored again with 7:18 left in the half. Off a pass from Malawsky, Campeau beat Stealth goalie Matt Roik for his second goal of the game.
However, San Jose would score the final four goals of the half to take an 8-3 lead into the break.
Campeau opened the second half with his third goal of the game with 12:56 left in the quarter to cut the lead to four before San Jose extended the lead to five. Then, Lowe scored his first career goal with 11:39 left in the third quarter to make it 9-5. Malawsky and defenseman Richard Morgan setup Lowe for the goal.
The Stealth scored a quick goal before Jacobs scored with 10:43 left in the third to make it 10-6.
San Jose would score the final three goals of the quarter to extend its lead to 13-6 after three quarters of play.
In the fourth, Portland scored two goals to make the final score 13-8. Rookie transition player Matt Yager scored with 8:04 left and forward Dan Stroup scored with 2:15 left in regulation.
