Stealth Prepare For Upcoming Expansion Draft

San Jose - The San Jose Stealth have announced their protected list for the 2006 National Lacrosse League Expansion Draft. The draft will take place on Wednesday, July 12 at 1 p.m. PST
The expansion draft will fill the rosters of the league's two newest teams -- Chicago and New York - which begin play in the 2007 season.
The Chicago Shamrox and the New York club (name to be announced) will each select up to 11 players from the rosters of the 10 existing NLL teams. The Shamrox will have the first selection in the Expansion Draft. New York won a coin flip between the two expansion clubs, and was given the choice of selecting first in either the Expansion Draft or the 2006 Entry Draft. New York chose to select first in the Entry Draft, giving Chicago the first pick in the Expansion Draft (the teams will alternate selections). The coin flip took place at the league's Board of Governors Meetings at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. Details surrounding the Entry Draft will be announced at a later date.
The existing clubs can each protect up to 14 players on its current roster for the Expansion Draft. Clubs may either protect one goaltender and 13 of its runners (forwards/defenseman/transition players) or two goaltenders and 10 runners. The Stealth have elected to protect one goaltender and 13 runners.
As a player is selected from a team during the Expansion Draft, that team's general manager can then protect an additional player who was previously available. No team can lose more than two players in the Expansion Draft. Once a team has had two of its unprotected players selected, the remaining players on that team's list are no longer available for selection.
San Jose's list of protected and unprotected players follows. The Unprotected Players List includes unprotected roster players, retired players, injured reserve players, holdouts and players who are physically unable to report.
