Green Bay, Wisc. - The Wichita Stealth (2-1) offense got it going early against the Green Bay Blizzard (0-3) and the defense turned in another solid performance as Wichita stopped the Blizzard 41-26 in front of 3,300 fans at the Resch Center Saturday Night.
Stealth offensive specialist Michael Dritlein was named Game MVP for his four-touchdown performance. He finished the game with 8 receptions for 143 yards. Dritlein brings his season totals to 22 receptions for 320 yards and 9 touchdowns.
On the opening drive, the Stealth wasted no time scoring as quarterback Anthony Buich found Dritlein wide open in Green Bay territory on the first play of the game for a 39-yard touchdown pass putting the Stealth on top 7-0. After a Lee Vaughn interception, the Stealth offense was at it once again, Buich found Dritlein for a 10-yard touchdown pass putting the Stealth on top 14-0.
In the second quarter, Wichita got two scores both coming on the ground. The first came on a five-yard run by Fullback/Linebacker Brian Goolsby to put the Stealth up 21-7 with 13:40 left in the second quarter. Late in the quarter, the Stealth offense would get another rushing touchdown, this one by wide receiver/defensive back Dan Dawson. Dawson scored his second rushing touchdown of the year on a nine-yard run with 48 seconds left in the half, putting the Stealth up by two touchdowns, 28-14.
Dritlein added the only score of the third quarter on a 14-yard pass from Buich increasing the Stealth lead to 20 after a failed point after attempt by Stealth kicker Jason Corse, 34-14. Corse was 5-of-6 on extra point attempts for the game.
The duo of Buich and Dritlein would hook up again in the fourth quarter on an 11-yard pass with 2:08 left in the fourth quarter. Buich would finish the night with his best performance of the season. He was 16-of-29 for 224 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Vaughn was named ADT Defensive Player of the Game for his performance. Vaughn had two interceptions on the night to go along with nine unassisted tackles.
Green Bay offensive specialist Nick Johnson came into the game averaging 89 yards per game receiving (tied for 6th in the league), had eight catches for 101 yards and one touchdown on the night in a losing effort for Green Bay. Green Bay offensive /defensive lineman Greg Jones was named Ironman of the game.
The Stealth will return home next week to begin a three game home stand. They will face the Tulsa Talons (3-0) on April 26th, the Hawaiian Islanders (3-0) on May 3rd, and the Quad City Steamwheelers (1-2) on May 10th. Tickets are available by calling the Stealth office at 316.755.3307.
STEALTH GAME NOTES
· The Stealth get their first road win of 2003 and the third in team history (3-15).
· The Stealth improves to 2-0 when leading at the half and when leading at the end of the end of three quarters.
