SAN JOSE - Four members of the San Jose Stealth have been selected to represent their respective countries in the 2006 World Field Lacrosse Championships in London, Ontario Canada from July 13-22, 2006. The 2002-03 National Lacrosse League Defenseman of the Year Jim Moss, and 2005 first round draft picks Matt Vinc and Jeff Zywicki will be competing for Team Canada, while 2004 NLL Rookie of the Year Ryan Boyle will represent the United States.
Moss, one of the top defensemen in the game, was selected as a starter for the 2005 NLL All-Star Game. A fan favorite, the six-foot, 210-pound native of Toronto, Ontario posted nine points (four goals, five assists) while scooping 75 loose balls in 16 games last season.
Vinc, although selected by the Stealth as a goaltender, will play defense with Moss in the World Championships. The six-foot-two, 225-pound, St. Catharines, Ontario native played defense for Canisius College, garnering Second Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference honors after leading the Golden Griffins with 63 ground balls. Vinc scored a career-high two goals his last season, while constantly drawing the opposing team's top offensive threat.
Zywicki, who was regarded as the most complete offensive package available in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft, ranked second on UMass with 36 goals and 43 points in 2005. Named to Inside Lacrosse's Sharpshooters list, the five-foot-nine, 195-pound Napean, Ontario native boasts one of the most accurate shots in the nation.
This marks the second time Boyle has been selected to play for Team USA in the World Lacrosse Championships. In 2002, he helped lead the team to their defeat of Team Canada in the championship game. Selected as the third overall pick in the 2004 NLL Entry Draft, Boyle captured the 2005 NLL Rookie of the Year Award after leading all NLL rookies in points (64), goals (22), assists (42) and loose balls (95).
