Vancouver Stealth News Release
Buffalo, NY (Saturday) - The Vancouver Stealth (2-2) were defeated by the Buffalo Bandits (1-2) 21-15.
It was the Wild West out East Saturday Night in Buffalo. On most nights 15 goals would wrap up a win for the Vancouver Stealth but this evening was not like most nights.
Thomas Hoggarth scored the opener 13 seconds into the game and less than 90 seconds later Peter McFetridge scored his first goal as a member of the Vancouver Stealth. If you blinked, you probably missed the rest of the fast-paced first quarter, which ended deadlocked at 4-4.
After that the Bandits took over, going on a four-goal run to start the second quarter and ending it off with a pair. Buffalo led after two 10-8 and never looked back. Vancouver showed heart throughout the game including fighting back from a 15-11 deficit and going on a 4-goal run to tie the game.
"For the most part in the second half of the third quarter we outscored them," said Head Coach Jamie Batley. "We stayed out of the penalty box which was great but unfortunately five-on-five we did not get the quality shots we needed. We had 15 goals but I think we could have had a lot more with 80 shot attempts."
The Bandits would answer the Stealth's run in the fourth quarter adding 6 goals of their own and securing a 21-15 victory.
Vancouver was once again led offensively by the trio of Rhys Duch (2 goals, 5 assists), Corey Small (3 goals, 7 assists) and Logan Schuss (4 goals, 2 assists). Jordan Durston chipped in for 4 points including a highlight reel goal on a diving shot from behind the net that fooled the goalie.
"Coach Milligan drew up that play for me. I have never tried that play before the shoot around this morning," said Jordan Durston. "Coach has been on me for more production and the goalie was giving me a little bit of room on his right side, so I went for it and got a little lucky."
The Stealth look to get back on the winning track next weekend. They have another back-to-back, with their first stop in Saskatchewan taking on the reigning NLL champions on Friday Night.
The following night will be at home against the Georgia Swarm on Saturday, January 28, 2017. The night will be dubbed the "Stealth Experience" where any youth wearing a minor sports jersey will get into the Langley Events Centre for free with an accompanying adult. After the game, Stealth players will invite fans onto the turf where they will be playing games, hosting demonstrations and signing autographs. Tickets are available at the Langley Events Centre Box Office at 604-882-8800, or Ticket Rocket.co.
