Wichita Stealth News Release
Wichita, Kan. - Led by the Game MVP fullback/linebacker Daren Williams the Wichita Stealth defeated the Green Bay Blizzard 57-36 at the Kansas Coliseum. Williams set a new Stealth single game rushing record with three touchdowns. The Stealth were also led by ADT Defensive Player of the game Shomari Buchanan. Buchanan had two interceptions on the night, one of which he returned 24 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.
The Stealth jumped out to an early 20-0 lead in the first quarter. They lead off the game on a seven-play 30-yard drive, capped off by a 4-yard touchdown run by Williams. On the ensuing Green Bay possession, Buchanan picked off a Ramon Robinson pass and returned it 24-yards for a touchdown giving the Stealth a 14-0 lead halfway in the first quarter. They would later add another rushing touchdown in the first quarter by Brian Goolsby making the first quarter score 20-0.
Green Bay finally got their offense going in the second quarter, but was unable to contain the Stealth offense as the two teams put up a combined 42 points in the second quarter. The Stealth added another Williams touchdown and two receiving touchdowns, one by offensive specialist Michael Dritlein and one by wide receiver/defensive back Dan Dawson.
The offensive output slowed in the second half as the two teams only put up a combined 31 points in the whole second half. Green Bay got the first points of the second half cutting the Stealth lead to its smallest of the night, 12 points. Blizzard wide receiver/defensive back Nate Lehman caught a 39-yard pass from Robinson making the score 40-28. The Stealth would counter with an Anthony Buich to Greg Kyler 7-yard pass putting the Stealth lead back to 19 points, 47-28. Buich finished the night 13-of-23 passing for 180 yards and three touchdowns.
Stealth wide receiver/defensive back Dan Dawson was named the Ironman of the Game. Dawson caught three passes for 29 yards and one touchdown on offense and defensively he had five tackles (four unassisted), one fumble recovery, and one interception.
Next week, Wichita will begin a three-game road swing. First they travel to Huntsville, Alabama to take on the Tennessee Valley Vipers on June 7th. Then they will travel to San Diego to take on the Riptide in a divisional showdown on June 14th, and they will finish up with a re-match against the Arkansas Twisters in Arkansas on June 21st.
STEALTH GAME NOTES
· The Stealth gave up their first sack since April 12th.
· Stealth defensive specialist Ty Ardoin set a new single game record for tackles with 11.5 on the night.
· Shomari Buchanan's 50-yards on interception returns are the second best single game output in franchise history.
