Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves got back over the .500 mark with a 6-4 win on Monday night in front of raucous Buck Night crowd of over 3,500 at Jerry Uht Park.

The Baysox struck for a pair in the top of the first inning against Erie starter Warwick Saupold. Xavier Avery led off with a walk and was doubled home by Buck Britton for a 1-0 lead. Britton scored on a two-out singled off the bat of Henry Urrutia making it 2-0.

Erie struck right back in the last of the first against Bowie starter Devin Jones. Daniel Fields led off and reached on an error and was doubled over to third by Hernan Perez. Tyler Collins grounded out, scoring Fields making it 2-1. Perez would later score on a wild pitch, tying the game at 2-2.

The SeaWolves grabbed the lead in the second. Jamies Robbins led off with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Corey Jones singled home Robbins for a 3-2 lead.

After the Baysox tied the game in the top of the third, Erie would take the lead in the bottom of the third once more. Ramon Cabrera tripled down the right field line and scored on a Robbins two out knock for a 4-3 lead.

In the fifth, the SeaWolves extended their lead. Collins led off with a double and scored on a Cabrera single making it 5-3. Cabrera later came home on a Jones double to right making it 6-3.

In the fifth, the Baysox loaded the bases on Saupold but he got out of the jam striking out Urrutia for his final out of the game. He finished allowing three runs on five hits with five walks and three strikeouts.

Reliever Will Startup was brilliant in relief of Saupold allowing just one run over the final four innings of the game, preserving the Erie win and earning his third save in as many chances.

Startup (1-1) earned the win, his first in Double-A.

The SeaWolves and Baysox meet on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park at 6:35. RHP Derek Hankins (0-1, 4.66 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Eddie Gamboa (0-0, 4.32 ERA).
