Traverse City North Stars News Release

BOARDMAN, Oh. - There's little margin for error in the final four regular season games for the Traverse City North Stars. Following a 6-1 setback on Sunday afternoon in suburban Youngstown, the Stars expended their game in-hand against the two teams they're still chasing for the fourth and final playoff berth in the NAHL North Division: the Marquette Rangers and Team USA.

Both foes sat idle on Sunday as TC completed a three-game weekend at the Ice Zone, coming away with a point from Friday's shootout setback.

As was the case on Saturday night (five goals), Traverse City suffered through a less-than-stellar second period in the matinee finale, giving up the game's first four lamplighters in succession over a span of less than 11 minutes. Kyle Bonis (Lindsay, ONT/Indiana USHL) got the North Stars on the board, opening the second stanza with a breakaway goal - his third of the weekend - but it was the visitors' final scorecard entry. Kory Kaunisto (Sault Ste. Marie, MI/ Waterloo USHL) assisted.

The Stars remain in sixth place, one point behind Marquette and two shy of Team USA for the fourth slot. The Rangers and Under-18s will play a pair this weekend in Ann Arbor, while Traverse City (21-21-12) has the daunting task of hosting the defending NAHL champion and 2007-08 North Division titleholding St. Louis Bandits (44-9-2) next weekend at Centre ICE arena. The North Stars visit Marquette for a two-game set to close out the regular season, while the U-17s travel to Mahoning for two on March 28-29.

Friday's series opener with St. Louis faces off at 7 p.m.
