
Stars Host Successful School Day Game in Freeman Coliseum

SAN ANTONIO (May 28, 2015) - The San Antonio Stars successfully hosted their first game at the Freeman Coliseum in 2015, welcoming 4,237 fans to their annual School Day Game presented by St. Philip's College. The Stars lost a tight contest against the Tulsa Shock, 71-79.
The Stars held a 9-5 lead in the first few minutes of the first quarter with seven of the nine points coming from rookie Dearica Hamby. The Shock struck back with a 19-5 run to close the quarter ahead 23-14. In the rally, Tulsa's Riquna Williams scored 10 points, including two three-pointers.
Kayla Alexander opened the second quarter for the Stars with a quick nine points, cutting the Shock's lead to 27-23. Buckets from Odyssey Sims and Brianna Kiesel stretched the lead to 31-23 with just under six minutes remaining. With two minutes to go, a jumper from Jia Perkins brought the Stars within six points. The visitors would close out the half up 41-33.
As the second half came under way, the Stars battled to chip away at the lead. A layup from Danielle Robinson three minutes into the third brought San Antonio within four points. Tulsa responded with another shooting flurry, holding the Stars to three points to its 17 in just under four minutes. The run gave Tulsa its biggest advantage of the game, 18 points, and a lead of 60-42 with four minutes left in the quarter.
The Shock entered the fourth quarter with a 64-51 edge over the Stars. Perkins hit two buckets to close the gap to 10 points, with only seven minutes remaining. The Shock held on to the lead throughout the fourth, holding a 14 point advantage mid-way through the fourth. San Antonio rallied back to come within nine points twice in the final three minutes, but the Shock held on despite being outscored 20-15 in the last quarter.
Alexander led the Stars, recording a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 boards. Perkins and Hamby followed with 13 and 11 points respectively. Sydney Colson registered a game-high seven assists in her 11 minutes of play.
Tulsa was led by Williams who finished with 18 points, while Kiesel recorded 10 points, five assists, and three rebounds.
The Stars tip off the 2015 regular season, presented by CHRISTUS Santa Rosa and H-E-B, in Phoenix against the defending champion Phoenix Mercury on June 5 at 9 p.m. The Stars 2015 home opener takes place on June 14 at the Freeman Coliseum against the Tulsa Shock at 3:30 p.m. Ticket plans for the upcoming season are now available.
