June 7, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Stampede will host their 2016 Tryout Camp this weekend, June 10-13, at the Scheels IcePlex in Sioux Falls. Over 100 players will be vying for a spot on the Stampede roster for the 2016-17 season. The camp will bring players and their families from all over the United States to Sioux Falls for a long weekend. Families will also have the opportunity to tour the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center, home of the Stampede. Last season, the Stampede set the USHL single season attendance record for the second straight year after drawing over 200,000 fans in 30 games. The club has also earned back-to-back USHL Organization of the Year awards in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
Players attending camp include Luverne's Jaxon Nelson who was tendered by the Stampede at the end of the season. Nelson tallied 113 points this past year for Luverne High School. Also expected to attend is the Herd's first overall pick in the Phase I Draft last month, Gavin Hain. Hain recorded 29 points in 25 games with Grand Rapids High School as a sophomore. The Herd's third round selection of the Phase II Draft, Austin Albrecht, is also expected to skate during camp. Albrecht skated last season with Wichita Falls of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) where he tallied 60 points in 58 regular season games. He helped lead the Wildcats to the Robertson Cup championship game after recording 12 points in nine playoff games. In addition, the Stampede will also have eight returning players (three defenseman, five forwards) from last year's Clark Cup playoff team at camp.
Tryout camp scrimmages will take place at The Furniture Mart rink inside the Scheels IcePlex thought camp. All activities are free and open to the public. The 2016-17 training camp roster will be chosen at the conclusion of camp. All USHL teams are required to cut their rosters to 25 players prior to the start of training camp in late August.
