Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Stampede heads to Lincoln, Neb. this weekend to take on the Lincoln Stars for the final time this regular season. The Herd defeated the Stars last Saturday and currently holds a record of 26-24-5-1 this season.
So far this season, the two teams have met five times with the Herd holding the winning record of 3-2. In Lincoln, the duo split the only series at the IceBox so far this season. Last weekend, the Stampede celebrated a 7-2 victory over the Stars which included a first-in-his-career hat trick from forward Zach Nehring.
The Stars are currently battling with the Des Moines Buccaneers for a spot in the Western Conference playoffs. Sitting in seventh place with 51 points, the Stars are two points behind the Buccaneers and will have the opportunity to grab these points as they have one additional game to play over the Buccaneers. The Stars hold a record of 23-27-3-2 this season.
On the Stampede's playoff opportunities, the team is currently pushing for a bit of a cushion from the lower ranked teams and vying for home ice during the first round of playoffs. Holding seven more points than the Stars, the Herd sits in fifth place, three points behind Tri-City whom they play twice next weekend. With this year's playoff layout, the teams in third and fourth place in the conference are guaranteed two games of home ice in the best-of-three first round. Three teams in each of the USHL's conferences have clinched playoff position, leaving three in each conference to fight for position. The Stampede needs a magic number of eight points to clinch a playoff spot. As the points draw nearer, the team will release more clinching scenarios and inform fans about playoff details.
Following this single-game weekend, the Herd heads on the road to Kearney, Neb. and Sioux City, Iowa for a three-game weekend. The following weekend, the team closes out the regular season with a home-and-home series against the Fargo Force. Saturday, Apr. 13 is both Kid's Night and Take My Jersey Night at the PREMIER Center. More information on this game will be available in the coming weeks. Tickets for the Herd's final home game are available at the Stampede office, KELOLAND box office or through any Ticketmaster outlets.
