The Stampede travel to Indiana and Chicago this weekend for the final two games before the holiday break. The Stampede return home to the Sioux Falls Arena on Wednesday, December 31st to face the Lincoln Stars at 7:05 PM.

On Friday, the Herd travel to Indianapolis to face the Indiana Ice at 6:30 PM (Central Time). The Ice are the top team in the USHL with a 17-4-1 record and are 12-2-0 at home. The Ice went 1-1-0 last weekend, falling to Chicago 6-3 on Friday before topping Lincoln 2-1 on Saturday. Brandon Richardson leads the Ice in scoring with 27 points (9g, 18a) in 20 games. Brett Bennett ranks first in goaltender victories with 14 and ranks third overall with a 14-4-1 record, a 2.19 GAA and a .927 save percentage.

On Saturday, the Stampede will be in Chicago to face the Steel who are 13-11-1 on the season. Forward Andrew Miller leads the USHL in scoring with 38 points (13g, 25a) in 24 games. Game time is 7:30 PM.

The Stampede enter the week with a 10-12-2 record and just one point back of Fargo for third place in the West Division.

STAMPEDE SPREADING HOLIDAY CHEER THIS WEEK

The Stampede players will be spreading some holiday cheer this week. Tomorrow (Tuesday) the Stampede will be visiting the Volunteers of America Daycare Center and handing out presents to children who normally wouldn't receive a gift this holiday season.

The gifts for the children were generously donated by Margaret and Jim Daniels of Daniels Construction as well as: Brooks Construction, Showplace Wood Products, Jim Ross Plumbing, Sorlein Electric, UBC, Kitchen Unlimited and Frisbee Plumbing and Heating. This will mark the third straight year the Stampede have visited the Volunteers of America Daycare Center.

On Wednesday, several Stampede players will be visiting the Pediatric Unit at the Avera McKennan Hospital handing out gifts and visiting with children who can't be home for the holidays.

VANEK ADDS TO NHL GOAL SCORING LEAD

Former Stampede star Thomas Vanek tallied five goals in four games last week for the Buffalo Sabres. He now leads the NHL in goals scored with 24.

Vanek tallied a goal in a 4-3 win over Pittsburgh on Monday and followed that up with two goals in a 4-2 win over Tampa Bay and two more against New Jersey in a 4-2 victory. His first goal against the Devils was not only the league leading 23rd of the season, but the franchise's 10,000 goal.

The Sabres have won four of their last five games and are now 15-12-3 on the season and in third place in the Northeast Division. The Sabres return to action on Wednesday to face New Jersey.

MURRAY CONTINUES HOT PLAY FOR ONTARIO (ECHL)-

Former Stampede netminder John Murray (2004-06) continued his stellar play between the pipes for the Ontario Reign of the ECHL, stopping 28 of 29 shots in a 5-1 win over Fresno.

Murray is now 6-3-1 with a 2.10 GAA and a .933 save percentage for the Reign who are 13-9-1 on the year and in second place in the Pacific Division.

HARRINGTON AND STEPHENS PLAYING OVERSEAS-

Former Stampede forward Brandon Harrington (2003-05) and defenseman Evan Stephens (2003-05) are on an overseas trip with the Dartmouth Big Green. The Big Green left last Wednesday on a 10-day excursion to Copenhagen, Denmark and Stockholm, Sweden. Dartmouth will play a total of seven games while on the trip.
