Stampede Prepare for USHL Drafts This Week

The future of the Stampede will become a lot clearer this week. The coaching staff is currently preparing for the USHL Futures and Entry Drafts this Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday is the USHL "Futures Draft" which consists of only players who were born in 1994. The draft will consist of a maximum of six rounds and begins tomorrow (Tuesday) at 10 AM. Fans can see the selections as they happen by visiting www.ushl.com.

Each team will select five players with 1994 birthdates and those players can be added to their affiliate list. Each team can have 12 players on their affiliate list in addition to their 23-man roster. Players selected in this draft will remain property of the selecting team for three years.

On Wednesday the USHL Entry Draft will take place at 10 AM. Players with a 1990 birth date and younger are eligible to be selected. The number of rounds in the draft depends on the number of players listed on each team's veteran protected list. Once that number reaches 23 players they are done until every team in the league reaches 23. Once all teams have hit that number all teams will select again until each team hits 30 players and the draft will conclude.

The players selected in the draft will be invited to the Stampede's tryout camp, June 4-7 at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis. Fans can follow round-by-round coverage of the Stampede's selections on the Stampede website www.sfstampede.com or on Facebook.

Several former Stampede players will once again serve as coaches at the Herd's tryout camp in Minneapolis. More information on camp and the coaches will be made available next week.

The USHL will consist of 16 teams this year with Muskegon, MI and Dubuque, IA joining the league. All teams except for Team USA will participate in the futures and entry draft. An expansion draft took place earlier today, but results will not be made available until tomorrow morning prior to the start of the Futures Draft.
