Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
The Sioux Falls Stampede will open the 2006-07 regular season this Friday night at the Sioux Falls Arena versus the Tri-City Storm. Be there as the defending Anderson Cup champions begin the 8th season of Stampede hockey. Game time is 7:05 PM and tickets are still available.
The Herd will also be home Saturday night when they welcome the Lincoln Stars to town at 7:05 PM. Be among the first 1,500 fans through the doors and receive a "free" magnetic schedule. To purchase tickets, visit the Sioux Falls Arena Box office.
MEET THE STAMPEDE THIS WEDNESDAY-
Fans can get a behind the scenes look at a Stampede practice at "Meet the Stampede Night" this Wednesday from 6 PM to 7:30 PM at the Sioux Falls Arena. Fans are encouraged to attend and watch the Stampede practice.
Coach Hartzell will be mic'd up and explaining to the fans what is happening on the ice. After practice, fans will be given the opportunity to meet and greet this year's team and receive autographs. This event is absolutely free of charge, thanks to the Sioux Falls Arena!
STAMPEDE ANNOUNCE 23-MAN ROSTER-
Head Coach/GM Kevin Hartzell announced today the Stampede's 23-man roster to start the 2006-07 season. The Herd were allowed to carry 25 players on their roster during the pre-season. The Herd return eight players from last year's squad that captured the Stampede's first ever Anderson Cup championship, including Captain Zach Redmond and Assistant Captain's Jake Drewiske and Drew Fisher.
INSIDE STAMPEDE HOCKEY RETURNS-
Inside Stampede Hockey returns today at 5 PM on Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN. Join Jim Olander and head coach Kevin Hartzell as they discuss the Stampede's pre-season play and preview opening weekend against Tri-City and Lincoln. Inside Stampede Hockey airs live every Monday throughout the season from 5 PM to 6 PM on KWSN-Radio and features coaches, players and alumni plus your phone calls. Fans outside of Sioux Falls, can listen "live" online.
STAMPEDE ALUMS CAPTAINS AT U OF M-
For the first time in franchise history the Stampede will have three former players serving as captain's on one team. The University of Minnesota has announced their captains for the 2006-07 season and all three are Stampede alums. Mike Vannelli will serve as captain while Kellen Briggs and Alex Goligoski will act as Assistant Captain's.
Vannelli played with the Stampede from 2001-02 season while Briggs played from 2000 to 2003 and Goligoski in 2003-04.
SERTICH NABS FIRST PROFESSIONAL GOAL-
Former Stampede star and Hobey Baker winner Marty Sertich netted his first professional goal Friday night for the Iowa Stars, the top affiliate of the Dallas Stars. Sertich scored the eventual game-winning goal and was the #1 star of the game in Iowa's 4-2 pre-season win over Peoria in Des Moines, IA. Sertich tallied his second goal of the pre-season last night when Iowa defeated Omaha 3-1.
This summer, Sertich signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Stars and is expected to spend the season in either Des Moines (AHL) or Idaho, the ECHL affiliate of the Stars.
