Harrisburg Stampede News Release

HARRISBURG, PA (May 14, 2014) - The Stampede is coming off a tough loss in Trenton (4-2) last week that cost them 2nd place in the National division. The game was a seesaw battle in the first half, as both offenses operated efficiently for the most part. QB E.J Nemeth connected on 3 first half TD passes and ran for a another, as the Stampede took a 29-24 lead into the half.

The 3rd quarter was relatively quiet on both sides. Stampede K Cap Poklemba was able to notch a field goal, the lone score in the 3rd quarter, pushing the lead to 32-24. Unfortunately for the Stampede, the lead would not last long. The Freedom offense exploded in the 4th quarter to the tune of 28 points, while the Stampede offense could not respond. The Herd was able to score a late TD, but botch the onside kick that could have given them a chance to stay in the game. A late TD run by Freedom RB Melik Brown sealed the fate of the Stampede in a 52-39 loss.

The Georgia Fire outlasted the Nashville Venom (3-2) last week with a late game-winning field goal. The Fire offense struggled in the first half, only scoring 17 points. The second half was a different story as they exploded, led by QB Cecil Lester's standout performance. He led the Fire to scores on six of their seven 2nd half possessions. Overall, he tossed 7 TD passes, and threw for a PIFL season-high 344 yards.

Matchup to Watch :

Harrisburg Stampede LB Amara Kamara leads the PIFL in sacks with 7.0 this season. The converted LB has come on strong in the last few weeks, notching all of those sacks over a three game span. He'll face a Fire O-line that ranks second to last in regards to protecting the passer.

Georgia Fire QB Cecil Lester earned the Week 7 Offensive Player of the Week passing for a PIFL season-high 344 yards along with tossing a personal season-high six touchdowns in a victory vs. the Nashville Venom. In a season when Georgia has started multiple QBs, Lester looks to cement his role as the starter with a good performance.

This cross-division matchup is the first and only meeting this season. Kickoff is set for Saturday May 17th at 7:00pm from PinnacleHealth Field at Giant Center.
