St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

ST. JOSEPH, MO - Although the new American Association baseball team in St. Joseph has still not announced an official name, they have named a General Manager. St. Joseph President Mark Schuster has announced today, that St. Joseph area native Duane Miller has joined the club and will be the team's first General Manager.

Miller comes to the new St. Joseph club by way of Springfield, MO, where he worked for one of the newest Minor League teams in the country, the Springfield Cardinals. An Account Executive with the Cardinals, Miller helped the first-year Texas League club to the 14th best attendance in the entire country in 2005.

Miller, 46, worked for the Albuquerque Dukes of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League for 11 seasons from 1986-1996 before working in pharmaceutical sales for Merck and Company Inc. for six years. After an 18-month stint with Mercy Health Systems in St. Louis, Miller found his way back to baseball, landing an Account Executive position with the St. Louis Cardinals-owned Springfield Cardinals.

"Coming back to St. Joseph is personally very exciting", said Miller. "I have a lot of great memories of Phil Welch Stadium, and it's an honor to have this opportunity during the inaugural season. I know the fans will be as excited as I am to have baseball back in St. Joseph."

"We are very fortunate to have Duane Miller as our General Manager. He brings a wealth of experience to this position and we are confident that Duane will make the St. Joe franchise one of the premier clubs in the American Association", stated Schuster.

St. Joseph will kick off their season May 12 on the road against the Sioux Falls Canaries and begin their inaugural season at home Friday, May 19 against the same Sioux Falls team. For season ticket and sponsorship information, please call (816) 279-6777.
