New York Empire News Release
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.V. - The Springfield Lasers were able to take down the New York Empire behind the strength of their Woman's and Men's Doubles teams, delivering a 25-17 win for the two-time defending champion. The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Lasers, lifting their record to 2-5. The loss drops the Empire to 3-4.
After an opening set victory by the Lasers Mitchell Krueger, 5-4, Springfield's Women's Doubles duo of Hayley Carter and Caty McNally and Men's Doubles tandem of Robert Lindstedt and Jean-Julien Rojer, would combine to beat their Empire counterparts, 10-3, giving the Lasers a sizable lead they would never relinquish.
Olga Govortsova would extend the lead with a 5-2 win over Sabine Lisicki, who is currently playing Women's Singles for New York in place of Kim Clijsters (rest).
The Empire would triumph in the final set of Mixed Doubles, 5-4, on the final point of the nine-game tiebreaker on a powerful return by Kveta Peschke to force extended play. Perschke and Neal Skupski would win the next three games without conceding a point before their comeback efforts would eventually fall short by dropping the fourth game of extended play.
