
Spring Approaches With New Players For Skyhawks

As baseball season becomes closer, the Skyhawks are preparing for the 2007 season. New faces have been signed to the Skyhawks roster this past week and will join the team during spring training. Also two returning pitchers will take the mound with the Skyhawks this season.
Pitcher Brian Ford will be back for the 2007 season. Ford was a part of the Skyhawks in 2006 appearing in 18 games with a 4.02 ERA and pitching in 100 innings. Ford started his career in 1995 by being drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies. He played for the Batavia Muckdogs (NY-Penn League) from 1995-1997. In his first year with the Muckdogs Ford was 3-1 and had an ERA of 1.18. In 1997 he was released by the Phillies and joined the Allentown Ambassadors (Northeast League) where he pitched in 32 games and had an ERA of 2.91. Joining the Can-Am League in 2005, Ford played with the Elmira Pioneers holding an ERA of 4.02 and pitching in 18 games.
Tim Tisch will return to the Sussex Skyhawks for the 2007 season. Last year with the Skyhawks Tisch appeared in 10 games towards the end of the season, starting six of those games. In 2001, Tisch was picked up by the Chicago White Sox in the 2001 Draft and signed on May 22nd. Until 2004, Tisch was a part of the Saint Paul Saints (Northern League) with a record of 10-2 and an ERA of 4.01. In 2006, Tisch returned to the Saints and shortly after joined the New Jersey Jackals (Can-Am League) before making his way to the Skyhawks.
Outfielder BJ Richmond will also become a member of the Skyhawks from the Ogden Raptors (Pioneer League). Richmond began his career in 2004 with the Raptors playing in 49 games. His average was .267 with 187 appearances at bat with 22 RBI's and 50 hits. In 2005, Richmond's average went to .284 and appeared in 66 games with 5 home runs and 30 RBI's.
Three new Rookies will also be joining the Skyhawks this season - Jay Reynolds, Jon Mungle, and Seth Epstein. Jay Reynolds comes from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas as an outfielder. Also outfielder Jon Mungle comes from the Calvary Vipers (Northern League). Finally Seth Epstein joins the Skyhawks from the Arizona Athletics (Arizona League) a part of the Oakland A's organization.
The Skyhawks open the 2007 season at home Thursday, May 24th against our cross-state rivals, the New Jersey Jackals. Following the game there will be a fantastic fireworks display.
