Sports Illustrated Kids Youth Sports Huddle one of ArenaBowl XX's weekend highlights

NEW YORK - The Arena Football League and SPORTS ILLUSTRATED KIDS are teaming up to bring an expert panel together at ArenaBowl XX Las Vegas to discuss the importance of "Putting Fun Back into Youth Sports." The SI KIDS Youth Sports Huddle will take place on Friday, June 9 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel as part of ArenaBowl XX Weekend.

The SI KIDS Youth Sports Huddle will provide the most recent research findings from Just Kid Inc., and expert panelists will discuss the relevance of sports, specifically travel teams, in the fast-paced world of today's digital youth.

"Football is just one of the many sports that teaches valuable life lessons," said COMMISSIONER DAVID BAKER. "We're grateful to be able to communicate important messages through our game because we want today's youth and their parents to understand that sports aren't only about winning and losing."

Confirmed panelists for the SI KIDS Youth Sports Huddle are former Iowa Barnstormers and current Arizona Cardinals quarterback KURT WARNER; BOB DER, Managing Editor of SPORTS ILLUSTRATED KIDS; DR. ROBERT GOTLIN of Beth Israel Medical Center; TANYA STREETER, World Record Freediver; and child psychologist MICHELLE PORIS, PhD. Radio host and author RICK WOLFF will moderate the panel.

BIOGRAPHIES

Rick Wolff (Moderator)

Radio host and author, Wolff holds degrees in psychology, both from Harvard and Long Island University. A popular speaker to community and school groups on sports parenting, his latest book, Parenting Young Athletes the Ripken Way, was written in conjunction with Baseball Hall of Famer, Cal Ripken, Jr.

Kurt Warner

Former Iowa Barnstormers and current Arizona Cardinals quarterback, Warner is the founder of the First Things First Foundation, a non-profit organization that has partnered with a variety of community organizations and charities to raise awareness and donations for kids in need everywhere.

Michelle Poris, PhD

Dr. Poris is a child psychologist and a member of the senior management of Just Kid Inc., a youth marketing innovation firm specializing in research, strategy, and product and program development for corporate and not-for-profit clients.

Dr. Robert Gotlin

Dr. Gotlin, a New York based orthopedic surgeon, hosts the "Dr. Rob Says..." sports health and fitness show on 1050 ESPN Radio in New York. The show reviews a myriad of health related topics along with offering expertise on sports and fitness related issues. In particular, controversial topics related to youth sports and youth development are detailed with point-counterpoint discussions among listeners and select experts.

Bob Der

Bob Der was named Managing Editor of SPORTS ILLUSTRATED KIDS, the top editorial post at the magazine, in March of this year. Prior to this appointment, Der, 35, was deputy managing editor at the monthly for two years. During that time, he was instrumental in the evolution of SI KIDS and its website, www.sikids.com. Der's passion for the SIK brand and connection to its readers dates back to 1990, when he joined the staff as an intern. He has since served as a reporter, associate editor, assistant managing editor and deputy managing editor.

Tanya Streeter

Tanya Streeter is a multiple World Record holding freediver and passionate environmental spokeswoman. In her short career Tanya has surpassed women's and even men's world records on several occasions, making her one of the most accomplished and recognized athletes in her sport. Called "The World's Most Perfect Athlete" by Sports Illustrated in 2002 and chosen by high-profile companies to endorse their products, Tanya is a committed ambassador of freediving.
