Arizona WR/DB Randy Gatewood named AFL Ironman of the Year

NEW YORK - For the second time in his AFL career Arizona Rattlers WR/DB RANDY GATEWOOD (6-0, 185, UNLV) was selected as the U.S. Army Ironman of the Year as voted by the League's head coaches, players, fans and Arena Football League Writers Association (AFLWA). He also won the award following the 2003 season making him only the third multiple winner in AFL history.

During the 2006 regular season, Gatewood, who is in his 11th season with Arizona, earned Ironman of the Week honors four times (Weeks 6-7, Week 9, Week 15) and was named Ironman of the Month in March. Offensively, he posted 89 catches for 1,175 yards and 35 touchdowns (sixth in the AFL). On defense he recorded 64.0 total tackles, three interceptions, seven passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Gatewood also earned First-Team All-Arena and All-Ironman Team honors this season.

Other players receiving votes this year included: Colorado's HUGH HUNTER, Dallas' DUKE PETTIJOHN and WILL PETTIS and Philadelphia's MIKE BROWN.
