Windsor Spitfires News Release
WINDSOR, ON - The Spitfires improved to 4-0 against the Kitchener Rangers on the season after a see-saw battle turned into a 6-3 win with 2 empty net goals.
In the first period, the game would go back and forth with each team creating chances. The Spitfires had a lot of possession before taking the games first penalty. The Spitfires were able to kill it off. The games first goal came on the Spitfires powerplay. Dionicio got the puck to Maggio and he went across the seam to Wright and he sniped his 10th of the season. That was the lone goal of the period. The Rangers had a 14-11 shot advantage after 20 minutes.
In the second period, the Spitfires got off on the right foot as Holmes had a blast from the point that found the back of the net just a minute and a half into the frame. Just over halfway through the period, the Rangers would score on the powerplay to make it a 2-1 game. The shots were tied 23-23 at the end of 2 periods.
In the third period, the Rangers got on the board just over a minute in to tie the game at 2. Nine minutes later the Rangers would take their first lead of the game with a shorthanded goal to make it 3-2. Just three and a half minutes later, it was Captain Maggio tying the game at 3 with a snipe for his 49th of the season. In the final 5 minutes of the period, the Spitfires Captain tried the Michigan and tap it to the front of the net and Wright pounced on the loose puck for his 11th of the season and 2nd on the night. Wright would complete the hat-trick on an empty netter from center ice. Peer would add a 2nd empty net goal and the Spitfires would take this one 6-3.
The Spitfires are back in action on a rare Wednesday night matchup when the Saginaw Spirit come to town. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
