Spirit to Hold Clinic at Farmington High School

West Springfield, January 2, 2004 – Springfield Spirit President and Owner, Stephen Fox and Farmington High School Coach Mike Forgione are both very pleased to announce that Farmington High School Girls Basketball is hosting a basketball clinic for players aged 8 – 16 with the clinic being conducted by the Springfield Spirit of the National Women's Basketball League.

Farmington Coach, Mike Forgione has coordinated this clinic with the Springfield Spirit to promote girls basketball in Farmington and the surrounding communities. Coach Forgione stated, "Younger players look up to high school, college, and now the pros. These are girls that are the best at what they do. They have paid their dues and are now playing basketball at the highest level of competition. It all starts in the gym at a young age and with hard work, determination, and dedication."

The Spirit roster is full of great roll models and is led by Kara Wolters, Rita Williams former UCONN players and Cindy Blodgett, a 1998 standout at the University of Maine. Also wearing the Spirit uniform this year are Brianne Stepherson (BC), Jennifer Butler (UMASS), Stacy Clinesmith (UC Santa Barbara), Kristen McCory (Syracuse), Yatar Kuyateh (URI), Tula Kofistas (CCSU), Diane Warner (CCSU) and Nicky Vallieres (AIC).

Springfield Spirit President and Owner, Stephen Fox stated, "Our goal as an organization and in the league in general is to give back to our community as much as possible. We are trying to grow women's basketball to its full potential and what better place to do that than in the center of the sport, Connecticut." Fox also stated, "with the help of groups such as Farmington High School we are able to go inside the different communities and speak to these young women and help teach them and show them that they can show case their talents on the next level."

The clinic will be held at Farmington High School on Saturday, January 10, 2004. The clinic begins at 5pm followed by an open practice by the Springfield Spirit at 7 p.m. The cost to attend the clinic is $50.00 per participant. The fee for the clinic also entitles each participant to attend "Farmington Day" Sunday, January 18 as the Springfield Spirit tip off their season with a game at CCSU vs. the Dallas Fury. It also entitles the participant's parents and friends to $3.00 off game tickets for the January 18th contest.

Individual game tickets are on sale on at the Springfield Civic Center Box and Central Connecticut State University box offices. Tickets may also be charged over the phone at 413-787-6600, 800-639-8602 (SCC) and at 860-832-1989 (CCSU). Tickets for the 2004 season may also be purchased on line at www.ticketmaster.com, tickets costs at CCSU are $20, $15, and $10 for adults and $12 and $10 for juniors under 18. At Cathedral H/S the tickets are $15 and $12 for adults and $10 for Junior under 18.

Season ticket benefits have been enhanced this year as well including many opportunities to see the players at practices and obtain free merchandise.
