
Spirit Players Foudy & Wagner Called to U.S. National Team

SAN DIEGO -San Diego Spirit captain Julie Foudy and #1 draft pick Aly Wagner were named to the U.S. Women's National Team roster for their upcoming training camp and match against Iceland on Sunday, February 16 in Charleston, S.C. The match at Blackbaud Stadium will kickoff at 3:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.

U.S. Women's National Team head coach April Heinrichs today named 24 players that will train for five days in Charleston, S.C., before choosing a roster of 18 players to face Iceland in the USA's second domestic game of 2003. A total of 20 WUSA players were called into the training camp. Foudy, who has 220 caps, rejoins the National Team after a month-long absence, as she did not participate in the team's recent championship performance in the Four Nations Tournament in China.
Wagner showed well in the recent Four Nations Tournament and will again be a part of the U.S. team camp, which features three of the top four draft picks in last Sunday's 2003 WUSA draft, including midfielder Devvyn Hawkins (Boston) and goalkeeper Hope Solo (Philadelphia). Wagner has appeared 36 times for the USA and has scored eight goals.
The San Diego Spirit is a charter member of the WUSA and plays their home matches at the 7,035-seat Torero Stadium on the campus of the University of San Diego. The Spirit kicks off their third season of action on April 5 vs. Boston.
