Alaska Avalanche News Release

Springfield Spirit defenseman Jeff Slinde has left the organization to play for one of the premiere teams in the WCHA, the Wisconsin Badgers, beginning immediately for the 2004-05 season.

The announcement was made by Spirit head coach Archie Bifulk on September 14, 2004.

Slinde, who is 19 and hails from Madison, Wisconsin, was extremely excited to begin his next endeavor in his hockey career.

"Slinde joined the Spirit midway through the 2003-04 season and contributed in many ways for the organization, "said Bifulk. "He has been a very steady defenseman and he contributed on the offensive side with 17 points last season. His leadership skills and talents will be greatly missed by the Spirit in this upcoming season."

"We are very happy with the decision that Jeff has made. He has the opportunity to make a dream come true by playing for his home town Badgers and will be a great asset to coach Mike Eaves' program," said Bifulk.

Slinde is the first Spirit player this year to move on and further his hockey career at the NCAA Division I level.
