Spinners Win 6-1 on Wednesday

LOWELL, MA - The Lowell Spinners (3-3) scored four runs over the sixth and seventh innings to defeat the Connecticut Tigers 6-1 before 4,903 fans at LeLacheur Park on Wednesday night.

The Tigers (2-4) scored a single run in the first inning against Lowell RHP Roman Mendez (1-0). CF Jeff Rowland (3-4) led off the inning with a double and moved to third base on a wild pitch. LF Matt Mansilla (0-3) lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to score Rowland to make it 1-0.

The Spinners scored a run in the second inning against Connecticut starter RHP Clemente Mendoza (0-1). LF Brandon Jacobs (3-4) hit a one-out single and scored on a triple by 1B Miles Head (2-2) to tie the game at 1-1.

In the fourth inning, the Spinners struck again with the combination of Jacobs and Head. Jacobs hit a two-out double and scored on a double by Head to make it 2-1.

Lowell pushed across two runs in the sixth inning. DH Kolbrin Vitek (1-4) led off the inning with a double and RF Bryce Brentz (0-3) was hit by a pitch. Jacobs grounded into a double play. Vitek was retired at third base and Brentz ended up at second base. After Head was hit by a pitch, 3B David Renfroe (0-4) reached on an error.

With the bases loaded, C Chia Chu-Chen (2-3) hit a bloop single to right field to score both Brentz and Head and make it 4-1.

Jacobs hit a two-run double in the seventh inning to round out the scoring at 6-1.

Tiger Tracks: The Tigers made a plethora of moves before the game, assigning RHP Dan Gentzler to the GCL Tigers and transferring IF Carmelo Jaime to Lakeland of the Florida State League. Both players did not see action with Connecticut.

The Tigers also received C Julio Rodriguez from West Michigan. He was hitting .250 with no home runs and one RBI in eight games played. Rodriguez started at catcher and went 0-3 with a walk.

RHP Robbie Weinhardt also made a rehab appearance with Connecticut after coming down from AAA Toledo. He pitched one scoreless inning and allowed one hit for the Tigers. He was 1-0 with a 2.35 ERA in 17 appearances for the Mud Hens.

The Tigers continue their three-game series with the Lowell Spinners on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Luis Sanz (1-0, 0.00) gets the start for the Tigers against RHP Madison Younginer (1-0, 0.00) for the Spinners. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. AM 1310 WICH and online at milb.com.
