Lowell Spinners News Release
LOWELL, MA - Summer is fast approaching and to prepare LeLacheur Park for the arrival of Lowell Spinners season, the team is hosting the seventh annual Lowell Spinners High School World Series presented by Therafit beginning Monday, May 21 before a championship round Tuesday, May 22.
Local bragging rights are on the line, in addition to the coveted 3-foot Canaligator Bobble Head Trophy, which had been proudly displayed at Lowell High School since their victory last May. Looking to take the Canaligator Trophy away are the returning teams from Andover and Billerica High School, while Chelmsford High takes the place of 2011 fourth place finisher, Dracut.
The tournament, the first baseball event run by the Spinners each year, is about more than just baseball as a graduating senior from each team will be awarded a $500 scholarship based upon leadership qualities and social responsibility displayed within their local communities.
"We are proud to be a community partner and the High School World Series is one of the best examples of how we can give back," said Spinners President and General Manager Tim Bawmann. "We look forward to not only welcoming the teams and their fans to LeLacheur, but celebrating the achievements of our four scholarship winners."
The first round will take place Monday, May 21 when Billerica takes on Chelmsford at 5 p.m. before Lowell kicks off their title defense at 7 p.m. against Andover. The Championship Game will take place Tuesday, May 22, at 7 p.m., with the elimination game will take place at 5 p.m. The fourth place team will be replaced for the 2012 tournament to ensure another local community will receive the chance to participate.
Admission to the Lowell Spinners World Series is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Senior Citizens and children 12-years-old and under will be admitted for free. All of the money raised at the gate will go towards Lowell Spinners Charities.
"Baseball is about creating memories," said Bawmann. "These games create the memories of a lifetime and we are just happy to be a part of the event."
