-SPIKES PLAY FINAL GAME BEFORE ALL-STAR BREAK: The State College Spikes look to take one from the Vermont Lake Monsters tonight at Centennial Field in the final game of a three-game series. The Spikes' last game before the All-Star break will also be their last game against the Stedler Division. Vermont now has the all-time lead in the all-time series, 6-4, and has won all four games against State College at Centennial Field.

-LAST GAME: Vermont scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to deal State College a heartbreaking 4-3 loss at Centennial Field last night. Spikes pitchers Mike Felix, Mike Williams and Alan Knotts had held the Lake Monsters scoreless on two hits through eight innings, but an error, a two-run triple by Yhonson Lopez, and a sacrifice fly by J.P. Ramirez scored the game-winning runs for Vermont. Knotts took the loss for State College. Justin Byler smacked his fourth home run of the year, a solo shot in the fourth inning.

-SPIKES TO START BLACK : Right-hander Victor Black gets the start for State College this evening. The Pirates' supplemental first-round draft pick makes his fifth start of the year and his tenth overall appearance. Last time out, Black earned his first pro save, finishing off a win over Oneonta with three scoreless innings this past Tuesday. The Amarillo, TX native has a 2.53 ERA as a starter on the year.

-JENKINS TAKES THE HILL FOR VERMONT: Left-hander Chad Jenkins draws the mound assigment for the Lake Monsters today. Jenkins has made four starts for Vermont so far this season, and has gone at least four innings in each. In his previous outing, Jenkins allowed six runs, three of them earned, against Mahoning Valley last Sunday.

-TRIO OF SPIKES NAMED ALL-STARS: Brock Holt, Phillip Irwin and Zach Foster each earned NL All-Star mention as the rosters for the 2009 NYPL All-Star Game were announced. The game will take place on Tuesday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
