Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
GAME HIGHLIGHTS: The Williamsport Crosscutters had its three game winning streak snapped on Sunday falling to Tri-City 3-0.
The Crosscutters offense sputtered throughout the contest and were unable to provide starting pitcher Siulman LeBron (4-4, 4.04) any run support while he limited the ValleyCats to seven hits and just one earned run in 7 innings.
Tri-City broke a scoreless tie in the top of the 7th inning as 1B Nick Stanley hit a single with one out and after RF Sean Barksdale struck out, Stanley stole second and went on to score on C Pedro Gonzalez's game winning RBI single just out of the reach of a diving Adam Buschini.
Williamsport threatened to tie the game up in the bottom half of the 7th when 1B Darin Ruf hit a leadoff double to left. However, he would be stranded at third base as the inning ended.
Once again the Cutters threatened to score the tying run in the bottom of the 8th inning. Buschini had a two out single through the left side, and with CF Leandro Castro at the plate, stole second and Castro would proceed to walk. With runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs, SS Jeremy Barnes struck out swinging and the Cutters were yet again unsuccessful at pushing across the tying run.
In the top of the 9th Tri-City tacked on two insurance runs off of relief pitchers RHP Eric Massingham (2-1, 0.76) and RHP Justin Long (1-2, 4.15).
The Cutters managed only three hits while being shutout, a night after they pounded out fifteen hits and eleven runs in an 11-0 shutout victory on Saturday evening.
The Crosscutters will enjoy the next two days off as the NY-PL All-Star game takes place on Tuesday evening at State College. The Cutters next game is Wednesday August 9, as they travel to Oneonta, New York to face the Oneonta Tigers.
The Cutters will return home on Saturday August 22, when they play the first of three vs. the Jamestown Jammers. Cutters fans can hear the All-Star game on ESPN Radio Williamsport 1050AM, 104.1 FM and online at crosscutters.com
