SPHL Announces All-Rookie Team

HUNTERSVILLE, NC - The Southern Professional Hockey League on Wednesday announced its 2015-2016 All-Rookie Team as selected by a vote of SPHL coaches, general managers and media representatives.
F - John Lidgett, Huntsville Havoc
F - Joseph Manno, Fayetteville FireAntz
F - Zac Frischmon, Louisiana IceGators
D - Corey Hale, Knoxville Ice Bears
D - Mike Krieg, Pensacola Ice Flyers
G - Brandon Jaeger, Columbus Cottonmouths
John Lidgett of the Huntsville Havoc finished second among all SPHL players in shorthanded goals (three), was second among rookies in points (42) and assists (27) and third in shots on goal (170). Prior to turning pro, Lidgett (Edmonton, AB) played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Colgate University where as a senior he was named co-recipient of team's Whit Williams Award, given annually to team's most improved player.
Joseph Manno of the Fayetteville FireAntz finished second among rookies with 21 goals and 174 shots on goal, was fourth in penalty minutes (107) and fifth in points (38). Manno (Montreal, QC) played two seasons at Northeastern University before transferring to Northern Michigan University where he played his final two seasons.
Zac Frischmon of the Louisiana IceGators was second among all SPHL players with six game-winning goals, while among all first-year players he was second with five power play goals, third with 20 goals and fourth with 39 points. Acquired from Fayetteville on January 13, Frischmon (Ham Lake, MN) played four seasons at Mercyhurst University where he was named to the Atlantic Hockey Conference All-Academic Team as a senior.
Corey Hale of the Knoxville Ice Bears finished tied for sixth among SPHL defensemen in scoring (26 points), was second among rookie defensemen with a +13 rating and finished among the rookie scoring leaders with eight power play assists (T-fourth) and 22 assists (sixth). Hale (Montreal, QC) played four seasons at Norwich University, where he was named to the ECAC All-Academic Team his junior season.
Mike Krieg of the Pensacola Ice Flyers was second among all SPHL players with 12 power play assists, while among defensemen he was third in assists (23) and sixth in points (26). Krieg (Phoenix, AZ) played four seasons collegiately at the University of St. Thomas, where in 2013 he was named to the CCM Division III All-America second team by the American Hockey Coaches Association (ACHA).
Brandon Jaeger of the Columbus Cottonmouths finished tied for second among rookie goaltenders with 14 wins and was second in shootout wins (three), third in saves (1083) and fourth in minutes (2027:24) among all goaltenders. His 2.73 goals against average also ranked among the league leaders. Jaeger (Champlin, MN) played four seasons at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he was named Male Team Sport Athlete of the Year his junior year.
The league will announce its First and Second-Team All-SPHL rosters on Thursday.
