Rochester Brigade News Release
(Rochester, NY)-Rochester Brigade WR/DB Vonkeith Spencer has been named the arenafootball2 League IRONMAN, respectively for week 18, acknowledging his performance in last week's 50 to 54 defeat against the New haven Ninjas. This marks the second time this season that Spencer has earned a league honor, as he was named the Built Ford Toughman for week five.
Spencer, who has been in a back up role the past couple of weeks, saw his opportunity to shine when WR/DB Aaron Fix and WR/DB Derek Baker couldn't make the game due to prior engagements. He took full advantage of the opportunity and played the game of a lifetime.
Spencer started the game by returning the opening kickoff 50 yards for a touchdown and he didn't stop there. He did everything possible on the field to give the Brigade a chance to win, as he registered one of the best defensive performances in Brigade history. On the night, Spencer recorded a season high 9.5 tackles (9 solo), two interceptions, two forced fumbles, two pass breakups, two recovered fumbles including a 23 yard touchdown return and returned six kickoffs for 134 total yards. Spencer also caught five balls for 33 yards in route to being named the Game IRONMAN.
"That was one of the greatest performances I've seen by a two-way player," stated Saunders. "In my estimation, he raised the bar of a two-way guy."
On the season, Spencer led the team in tackles (57, 47 solo), interceptions (8) and breakups (15). He has also caught 22 balls for 191 yards, including three touchdowns, and returned eleven kickoffs for 262 yards and two touchdowns.
Don't miss Spencer and the rest of the Brigade this Saturday, August 3, when they head to the Pepsi Arena in Albany, NY, to face the Albany Conquest in the Northeast Divisional Playoff contest.
