Knoxville Speed News Release

KNOXVILLE, TN – Although the Knoxville Speed out-shot the Rockford IceHogs by twelve tonight, they couldn’t find enough holes to get past Steve Debus in net and took a 7-4 loss at the Civic Coliseum.

KnoxvilleÂ’s Paul Lawson scored his 10th of the season getting the gameÂ’s first goal at 5:12. However, it didnÂ’t take long for Rockford to respond. Forrest Gore scored at 7:12 and David Hoogsteen at 15:48 to give the IceHogs a 2-1 lead at the end of the first.

Debus kept the IceHogs hot stopping all 19 Speed shots in the period. Offensively, the IceHogs were lucky getting three goals on seven shots. Oak Hewer and Jeff Dacosta scored the third and fourth goals of the game while Forrest Gore snapped their scoreless power play streak at 19:35. It was the IceHogsÂ’ first power play goal in their last 16 opportunities.

KnoxvilleÂ’s fourth power play of the game in the third period sent the Speed into action making a serious effort for a win. Riley NelsonÂ’s 35th of the season came on the power play at 6:34 with Matt Holmes scoring back-to-back goals at 7:10 and again at 8:31. It put Knoxville within two goals of Rockford after Wes Blevins had scored first in the period for the IceHogs to make it a 6-1 game. HewerÂ’s empty netter at 19:45 secured the win for Rockford and finished the season series (Rockford, 5-1-0).

Game two of a weekend home stand is tomorrow night at the Civic Coliseum against the New Haven Knights. The final day of a weekend ticket sale for upper reserve seating, fans may call the Speed office in advance by 4:30pm on Saturday (03/23) at (865) 521-9991 and get them for just $6.00. All upper reserve tickets purchased at the door will be $8.00, reduced from the regular $10.00 ticket price.
