Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - The effort on the ice was significantly better for the Lewiston MAINEiacs on Saturday night. Unfortunately, the end result went to the visiting team for the second game in a row. The Quebec Remparts opened the scoring with three straight power play goals, and held on, adding an empty netter at the end for a 4-2 win in front of 2,611 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

In the first period, the Remparts jumped on top with a gorgeous passing play. Jonathan Audy-Marchessault and Joel Champagne each connected on one-touch passes, setting up Mikael Tam in the slot. Tam's shot sailed past Andrey Makarov's glove and into the back of the net. Later in the period, Quebec added another one on the man advantage. Mirko Hoefflin won an offensive zone face-off back to Martin Lefebvre, who slid a pass across the blueline to Vincent Barnard. Barnard rifled a one-timer home for a 2-0 Quebec lead at the end of one period of play.

The Remparts scored the lone goal of the second period, capitalizing on the power play yet again. The puck deflected out to the front of the net for Joel Champagne, who dribbled the loose biscuit through Makarov's legs.

Lewiston began to make a comeback in the third period, beginning when Cameron Critchlow buried the rebound off of Antoine Houde-Caron's initial shot. The score remained that way until there were three minutes remaining in the period, when the MAINEiacs used a controversial goal to bring the game to within a goal. Kirill Kabanov wrapped the puck in front of the goal. The puck trickled through the crease to Pierre-Olivier Morin, who whacked the puck in from the side of the crease. The original call on the ice was "no goal," but the call was eventually overturned thanks to video review.

Although the MAINEiacs got close, the Remparts ended up icing their win, as Mikael Tam potted an empty net goal for a 4-2 final score.

Louis Domingue earned the win for Quebec, making 33 saves on 35 shots. Andrey Makarov played terrific, but suffered the loss for Lewiston, despite stopping 37 of the 40 shots he faced.

The MAINEiacs will conclude their three-game homestand on Thursday night at 7:00, when they take on the Montreal Junior.
