La Crosse Spartans News Release
La Crosse, WI: When the La Crosse Spartans hold their 2010 Kickoff Press Conference this Thursday from their new home office, they will be introducing the latest addition to their training camp roster. This week the team acquired 6ft. 5in., 365 lb. Center Ya'Tarrie Brown, who last season served as the lead blocker for the 2009 IFL Champion Billings Outlaws. He is expected to make an immediate impact for the Spartans, and anchor the middle of the offensive line.
Brown began his indoor football career after two seasons at Division II Concordia University-St. Paul. While a member of the Golden Bears, he helped protect 2005 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Year, James McNear III. He himself earned multiple awards during his Senior season, being named to the All-NSIC First Team Offense, Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Region Second Team, and the Daktronics All-Region Second Team.
Following his collegiate campaign, Brown signed to play for the Sioux Falls Storm of the old United Indoor Football Association in 2007. He was named to the Western Conference All-Star Team that year and went on to help the Storm win the 2007 and 2008 UIF Championship games. In 2009, the first year of the Indoor Football League, Brown signed to play for the Billings Outlaws who beat the River City Rage 71-62 in the first ever IFL United Bowl. In that game, he paved the way for Runningbacks Tim Brown and Charles Anthony to rush for over 150 yards and three scores.
The signing of Brown gives Coach Gilbert Brown and his staff an experienced indoor player who brings a winning mentality to an expansion franchise. "Ya'Tarrie is a proven winner," reiterated Spartans Co-Owner Chris Kokalis. "He not only brings extraordinary talent, but an attitude that shows other players we can compete in any game this season."
Brown, along with other members of the Spartans roster, will be introduced at tomorrow's 11am Press Conference from the Spartans headquarters located at 1501 Saint Andrew Street in La Crosse. Other announcements expected to be made are plans for radio broadcast of all team games, the hiring of an assistant coaching staff, and details of a pre-season matchup against the neighboring Green Bay Blizzard on February 21st. Members of the media are asked to arrive by 10:30.
