Spartans Set 2010 Opening Night Roster

February 23, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
La Crosse Spartans News Release

La Crosse, WI: As training camp nears its conclusion following a 14-11 exhibition loss to the Green Bay Blizzard on Sunday, Coach Gilbert Brown and staff have set their 25 man roster for Friday's first regular season game. The men selected were cut down from a group of 45 individuals that originally came to camp almost two weeks ago. The Spartans now set their sights on their first game in team history this Friday, on the road, against the Wichita Wild. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Leading the team will be Quarterback Jimmy Sangster, a January signing, who last season was the backup signal caller for the United Conference Champion RiverCity Rage. In two contests in 2009 he completed 18 of 36 passes for 197 yards, 3 touchdowns, and added a score on the ground.

"It has been a long road to get to this point," stated Co-Owner and General Manager Chris Kokalis. "After seeing the guys in a live game we think we have selected a great group of players to represent the team and the city of La Crosse, and we look forward to the challenge of taking on one the league's elite teams this weekend."

In 2009, the Wichita Wild finished the regular season 8-6 and reached the United Conference Championship game, eventually falling to Sangster's Rage 43-30. The Spartans will have their hands full as the Wild are lead by 2009 IFL rushing leader and IFL Rookie of the Year Darius Fudge, who last season totaled 936 yards on the ground and 31 touchdowns.
