Spartans Downed By Storm

La Crosse Spartans News Release

Sioux Falls, SD: The La Crosse Spartans are sure glad to see the end of the month of March. With an IFL schedule that had the expansion franchise playing three straight road contests to begin the season, the team hopes a return home will change their fortunes. Today in Sioux Falls, the Spartans dropped their third straight game at the hands of the undefeated Storm 45-13. The same offensive issues that plagued the team in their first two games continued to haunt the Spartans.

Sioux Falls opened up the scoring on their first series as Quarterback Terrence Bryant marched his squad deep into Spartans territory and capped it off with a 3 yard scoring strike to James Terry. La Crosse answered right back as newly signed Quarterback Kewan Dewberry executed a three play drive that culminated in a 17 scoring strike to Receiver Antonio Overstreet. A missed extra point helped the Storm keep the lead at 7-6.

From there, the Storm showed why they are arguably the leagues best team in the first half of the season. Bryant, given plenty of time by his massive offensive line, continued to hit multiple receivers with pinpoint accuracy and helped Sioux Falls score 21 straight points to end the first half. With a 28-7 lead to begin the second half the Storm did not let up in the third and fourth quarter. The only other bright spot for the Spartans was a 31 yard scoring run courtesy of Mark Bonds. At game's end, the Spartans saw their record fall to 0-3.

The Spartans return home at what seems like the perfect time to right the ship and get on a roll. April sees the team play five straight home games in 27 days, starting with an April 3rd contest against the Omaha Beef. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the La Crosse Center. Season and Individual tickets are still available and can be purchased via the La Crosse Spartans website, www.lacrossespartans.com, or at the La Crosse Center box office.

Game Notes: 2009 All-IFL Second Team Running back Sean Treasure ran for 75 yards and a score for the Storm...Bryant ran in two Quarterback keepers for touchdowns...The Spartans fell to fourth in the Central North Division Standings.
