Sox pick up pair of former Cats; send Kain to the Angels

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox have announced the selection of two former Fort Worth Cats Robert Manuel and Nick DeBarr in the Fort Worth dispersal draft. Additionally, 2011 Sox outfielder Harrison Kain has been picked up by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

28 year-old right-handed pitcher Robert Manuel joins Amarillo after a 2011 spent with the St. Paul Saints and the Cats. The 6-3, 190 lbs Houston, Texas native went 3-2 with a 4.73 ERA, saving 13 games for the Saints, while he went 0-0 with a 0.54 ERA and one save for the Cats. Manuel pitched 45 games in 2011, all in relief. Additionally, he spent six years in affiliated baseball, including Major League stints in 2009 with Cincinnati and in 2010 with Boston.

28 year-old right-handed pitcher Nick DeBarr also joins the Sox from Fort Worth. The 6-4, 220 lbs Hayward, California native went 4-6 with a 4.18 ERA with 40 appearances and two starts in 2011. Selected in the 14th round of the 2002 draft by the Tampa Bay Rays, DeBarr spent six years in the Tampa Bay farm system, reaching triple-AAA Durham in 2008 and triple-AAA Albuquerque in 2009 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Sox also announced outfielder Harrison Kain's contract has been acquired by the Los Angles Angels of Anaheim. The 22 year-old right-hander played in 16 games with the Sox in 2011, his first professional playing season. The 5-11, 185 lbs Thousand Oaks, California native hit .268 with seven RBI and was a standout defensive center fielder.

Kain is the third member of the 2011 Amarillo Sox to be picked up by a Major League team. Outfielder Cyle Hankerd was picked up by the Philadelphia Phillies in July, while closer Cody Evans was also picked up by the Angels in early August. He is the 23rd player from the 2011 American Association season to be acquired.
