Florida Firecats News Release
Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats won't play their first game at home this year till April 22nd, but magic will be in the air this Saturday evening as the Germain Arena will play host for the inaugural Lee County Sheriff's Officers vs. Lee County Firemen Charity Bowl arena football game to benefit 2 local charities.
Kick-off is scheduled for this Saturday March 18th at 7:30pm as the Lee County Sheriff's department, in their black jerseys, battle the members of South Lee County's Fire Departments, donning their fire engine red.
It promises to be a great environment as local heroes goes up against each other, like Rob, an enthusiastic fireman with Estero Fire and Rescue, who looks forward to playing linebacker this weekend. The best thing about the event will be "bringing all the departments together for good charities," says Rob, who was glad they were asked to participate. On the thought of attending a similar event next year: "Oh ya, definitely!"
Regardless of the outcome of the game, the real winners of Saturday's contest are the benefiting charities:
The sheriff's team will be playing for the Brittni Colas Charity Foundation. Brittni, the step-daughter of a Lee County police officer, has a rare disease that affects her liver, bowel and stomach. Every three months Brittni and her family must travel to Cincinnati for checkups. Money that is raised for the foundation will help with the liver and bowel transplants that she will soon need, the family's traveling expenses and home schooling.
The firefighters will be suiting up in support of the Jay Harper Foundation. Harper is a firefighter with the San Carlos Park Fire District. He has been diagnosed with Burkitt's type non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a rare cancer. He is currently undergoing treatment. He is the father of six children, ages 1 to 14. Since being diagnosed, he has been unable to work and his wife has been caring for him and their children.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets will be $10 for adults. Children under 10 will be admitted free of charge. Advance purchase tickets are available at all Pinchers Crab Shack locations, Beef O'Brady's, Stevie Tomato's Sports Page and Stoney's Sports Café.
Tickets are going quick as roughly three to four thousand have already been sold. They will also be available at the gate for those last minute attendees.
