
Southern Professional Hockey League unveiled

Jacksonville, FL- Owner representatives of nine (9) existing professional ice hockey teams have agreed to affiliate and participate as the inaugural members of the Southern Professional Hockey League. After several months of meetings and discussions, these owners anticipate finalizing their league affiliation agreements during the week of July 5, 2004. Once complete each team will host an individual press conference to officially announce the affiliation.
The SPHL has commitments of participation for the 2004-2005 season from Orlando, Jacksonville, Columbus, Macon, Asheville, Huntsville, Knoxville, Cape Fear, and Winston Salem. The actual number of teams for year one should be announced no later than July 15, 2005. Final legal documents including the league incorporation, Constitution and By-laws, and the affiliation agreement are being completed at this time by league designated Counsel.
It is the sincere intent of all teams to unite and play hockey as one solid league with regional rivalries of old and new continuing in a very competitive environment. All team owners are determined to finalize this affiliation which they are sure will benefit each team's long-term viability, as well as answering the calls of unity by our fans.
