Nashville Sounds News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds Baseball Club is excited to announce a partnership with 104.5 The Zone (WGFX-FM) as the team's new flagship station for game broadcasts for the next two seasons.
In addition to the new radio partner in 2010, the team welcomes a new "Voice of the Sounds" - Stu Paul. Paul has spent the past eight seasons working with the Double-A San Antonio Missions.
"We are very excited to bring Stu's quality of work and level of baseball experience to Music City and to partner with the top sports station in the market," said Brad Tammen, the Sounds' Vice President of Sales & Marketing. "This is the perfect fit for us to expand our listenership throughout Middle Tennessee."
In 2010, The Zone will air all 72 home games as well as five select away games (April 14 at Iowa, May 27 at Sacramento, June 13 at Omaha, June 25 at Memphis, August 11 at Las Vegas) over the airwaves on 104.5 FM, with the remainder of games available to fans via live internet webcast based at www.nashvillesounds.com.
"I am excited about our new partnership with the Nashville Sounds as their flagship station. With more than 70 games being broadcast on 104-5 the Zone this season, I hope we are able to bring more awareness to the Sounds across Middle Tennessee," said Hunter Rice, the station's general manager. "We entered into this agreement with the belief that the Sounds have an exciting future behind the leadership of their new owners and management team."
Broadcasts will begin approximately five minutes prior to game time and will include a 10-minute postgame show. The Sounds enter their sixth season as the Milwaukee Brewers' Class AAA affiliate in 2010. The partnership will also include the annual broadcast of the Triple-A All-Star Game, which is slated for July 14 in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
104.5 The Zone features the top-rated drive shows in both the morning (The Wake-Up Zone with Mark Howard, Frank Wycheck, and Kevin Ingram, Monday-Friday, 6:00-10:00 a.m. CT) and afternoon (The Sports Zone with George Plaster and Willy Daunic, Monday-Friday, 3:00-7:00 p.m.). Both shows will welcome Sounds players, coaches, and other personnel on as guests on a regular basis.
"The Nashville Sounds are an important part of the Nashville sports fabric and, with that in mind, it just makes sense to create this partnership," said Plaster, whose early career resume includes a stint as a member of the Sounds' broadcast team in 1980 & 1981.
Paul - who will begin his first season as the new radio voice of the Sounds by broadcasting the club's season opener from Des Moines, Iowa on April 8th - comes to Nashville from San Antonio, where he broadcast a variety of sports over the past decade. He was the play-by-play voice of the Class AA San Antonio Missions of the Texas League from 2001-2009 and also broadcast for the San Antonio Iguanas of the Central Hockey League from 1999-2002.
Paul's past baseball credits include play-by-play for the Class A Salem Buccaneers of the Carolina League as well as the for Hagerstown Suns and the Jacksonville Suns. In addition to baseball, Stu has handled hockey broadcasts for the Tulsa Oilers and the Utica Blizzard as well as play-by-play for the Quad City Thunder of the Continental Basketball Association.
Paul hails from New York City and received his Bachelor's Degree in Radio/Television from Syracuse University.
The Sounds host 72 games at historic Greer Stadium in 2010, beginning with the 7:05 p.m. home opener against division-rival Iowa on Friday, April 16th. Please visit www.nashvillesounds.com for a complete schedule.
