Sounders to Play Friday Night Live on FOX Soccer Channel
July 10, 2008 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Seattle Sounders News Release
The Seattle Sounders (4-3-8) travel east for a two game road trip beginning in Rochester, New York against the Rhinos (3-5-5) Friday, July 11. Kickoff at PAETEC Park is slated for 5:00 p.m. PT and will be aired live on Fox Soccer Channel.
Fresh off a quarterfinal shootout victory against the Kansas City Wizards of MLS in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Seattle returns to USL-1 action this weekend. The Sounders U.S. Open Cup semi-final match against the Charleston Battery will be played on August 12, 4:30 pm at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, SC.
Half way through the season, Seattle is tied for fourth place (20 points) with Atlanta. This past weekend on the road, the team drew with the Carolina RailHawks (2-2) and lost to the Charleston Battery (1-0). Kenji Treschuk earned USL-1 team of the week honors for his goal against Carolina. Seattle?s last victory in league play came June 7 at home against Minnesota.
Seattle has already played nine games on the road (2-3-4) going into this weekend?s road trip. Of the Sounders remaining fifteen regular season games, six are on the road. Seattle?s final seven matches are at home. Next up is the long time league powerhouse Rochester Rhinos, who find themselves in the atypical position of last place with 14 points.
This past Saturday the Rhinos disregarded their last place standing and defeated the second-place Vancouver Whitecaps, 3-1. Midfielders Ze Roberto and Johnny Menyongar were named to USL-1 team of the week, with Roberto earning player of the week honors for his two goals in the win.
Seattle and Rochester played to a 1-1 draw in their first meeting of the season on May 14 at Starfire. Seattle?s Zach Scott scored his first goal of the season in the match, which was countered by Scott Palguta?s equalizer in the 90th minute to draw 1-1.
Rochester returns to Seattle Friday, July 18 in the third and final regular season match between the two sides. Likely to see action in the match is former Sounder and Portland Timber midfielder Andrew Gregor, who was acquired Thursday by the Rhinos in a trade from Portland.
