Sounders Play Atlanta In Rematch Of 2007 Championship Game

May 1, 2008 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Seattle Sounders News Release

The Sounders (0-1-1) travel to Atlanta on Friday for a nationally televised game on Fox Soccer Channel against the Silverbacks.

In a rematch of last year's championship game which Seattle won 4 - 0 at the Starfire Sports Complex, the Sounders come in having lost one and drawn one in their first two games of the season. Last week, the Sounders traveled to Portland and were beaten 2 - 0 by the Timbers who sit alone at the top of the table with nine points.

The third and final road game before the May 10th opener at Qwest Field, the Sounders have only one point through two games and are hoping to avoid the kind of start they went through last season, when they had only one victory to four losses and three draws in eight games.

"Atlanta is a great test for our team. Obviously, it's a rematch of last year's championship game and coming out of there with our first win of the season would be great for our team", Coach Schmetzer said.

Atlanta is currently second in the table with four points coming off a 3 - 2 win over the Montreal Impact last Friday. Macoumba Kandji, David Hayes, and Jason McLaughlin recorded goals for the Silverbacks.

Game Notes:

- After taking 17 shots and forcing only 6 saves in Portland, Coach Schmetzer stressed finishing in drills during training for Friday's match.

- Roger Levesque will not travel with the team after spraining his ankle in the first half at Portland last Saturday.

- Midfielder Ansu Toure for Atlanta was selected for USL Team of the Week honors after their victory over Montreal.

- The Sounders will host the Portland Timbers in their second Cascadia Cup match of the season on May 10th at Qwest Field. Tickets are still available, go to www.seattlesounders.net.
