Chicago Soul FC News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - After four consecutive losses, the Chicago Soul (2-4) were finally able to snap their streak against the Syracuse Silver Knights (1-5), earning a 14-11 victory at the Oncenter War Memorial Arena on Saturday night. Matthew Stewart and Carlos Muñoz led the way, each recording a hat trick.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Soul sparked some action in the second as Stewart put Chicago on the board at the 4:31 mark. Muñoz followed up shortly, tapping in a rebound to extend the lead to 4-0. The Silver Knights quickly retaliated on a three-point goal by Slavisa Ubiparipovic, cutting the Soul's lead to 4-3. Syracuse kept the momentum going as Bodizar Jelovac scored moments later to give the Silver Knights a 5-4 advantage. It appeared as though the Soul would head to the locker rooms trailing by one, but Stewart restored their lead, finding the net with .07 seconds remaining in the second quarter and giving Chicago a 6-5 lead at the half.

Syracuse's Elmo Marques Neto opened up second-half scoring with a goal to give his squad a 7-6 lead. Kenardo Forbes added a goal for the Silver Knights with seconds remaining in the third quarter, making it 9-6.

The Soul regained momentum in the fourth quarter as Stewart scored his second goal of the night, cutting the Silver Knights' lead to 9-8. Ephraim Beard's goal put Chicago back on top, 10-9. Muñoz followed up with a pair of goals to give Chicago a 14-9 advantage and put the game out of reach for Syracuse. Neto made one last attempt for his side, scoring late in the period to cut the Soul's lead to 14-11.

"We've had some really bad luck, but we finally turned it around and made some good adjustments," Muñoz said of his team's performance. "We played better defense tonight, we communicated well on the field, and played together as a team."

"I think we found our defensive rhythm tonight," said Soul Head Coach Manny Rojas. "If we continue to play the same way, we should be able to beat teams. It will also help when our injured guys return and when we begin playing at home."

The Soul, who have now played six of their seven straight road games, will make one last stop in Milwaukee next Saturday to take on the MISL defending champions, MIlwaukee Wave, before opening up at home on December 7.
